How to help others

The news is full of crimes against others, hate and corruption.  It is sometimes overwhelming to fully comprehend.  As I watch the reports, I wonder if there is something I could to help those effected and make a difference.

When thinking of ways I can help, it almost seems too big of an issue for me to tackle.  How could just one person make a difference? How can anyone make a difference in a world that seems to be getting angrier each day.

But I know that I can help in some small way.  That being caring and nice to those I come in contact with each day may make a difference in how they may react to bad behavior of others. And if something that I can say or do is passed along to another person, maybe (just maybe) some of the hate and anger will dissipate.

Is it possible or am I living in fairy tale?  I want to believe that one person can make a difference in changing behavior.  That one person can spread kindness.  That one person can make another persons day/hour/minute bearable.

Here is my challenge.  Make someones day.  Be kinder than necessary.  Say or do something to make another person smile.  See if it makes a difference.
