So much to be thankful for!

On Thanksgiving, most people try to express what they are thankful for.

My goal this Thanksgiving is to make a point to remember daily why I am thankful and to express my thankfulness and gratitude to all those in my life.

Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day.  ~Robert Caspar Lintner
In being thankful for the things I have been blessed with, I also want to remember those who are hungry, poor, unhappy, friendless and in need.   Let us all remember that over 960 million people worldwide, including 49 million Americans, will go hungry.  But remembering is not enough, I want to examine what I can do to make a difference in the lives of others.
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.  ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
The greatest gift I have to give is my time through volunteering.  Volunteering gives you an opportunity to change lives, I find that my life is the one that is changed the most!   Need help getting started?  Go HERE!
If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else. ~Booker T. Washington
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Monday Post!

Yes, it is Monday and I did not forget to post.  I hope your weekend was a nice as mine was!

Saturday was spend napping and spending time with the love of my life - John!!!

Sunday was spent hanging out with my BFF - Diane! We had a wonderful time going out for lunch and then shopping.  I keep wanting to spend more and more time with her the colder the weather gets; the cold weather always reminds me that she is leaving soon for warm and sunny Florida.

Today was a good day, very productive.  It may have helped knowing that I am only working 3 days this week.  Gotta love those holidays.

What are your plans for the holiday?

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Cute email from my BFF!

Cool Facts about Human Body
Scientists say the higher your I.Q. The more you dream.

The largest cell in the human body is the female egg and the smallest is the male sperm.

You use 200 muscles to take one step.

The average woman is 5 inches shorter than the average man.

Your big toes have two bones each while the rest have three.

A pair of human feet contains 250,000 sweat glands.

A full bladder is roughly the size of a soft ball..

The acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades.

The human brain cell can hold 5 times as much information as the Encyclopedia Britannica.

It takes the food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.

The average human dream lasts 2-3 seconds.

Men without hair on their chests are more likely to get cirrhosis of the liver than men with hair.

At the moment of conception, you spent about half an hour as a single cell.

There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet.

Your body gives off enough heat in 30 minutes to bring half a gallon of water to a boil.

The enamel in your teeth is the hardest substance in your body.

Your teeth start growing 6 months before you are born.

When you are looking at someone you love, your pupils dilate, and they do the same when you are looking at someone you hate.

Your thumb is the same length of your nose.

At this very moment I know you are putting this last fact to the test...!

Thanks Diane~  I got a chuckle out of this one!

Where is the sunshine?

I miss the sunshine - where did it go?

Since we changed the clocks, I have been dreading the evenings.  I get off work and it is dark.  I am ready to go to bed almost as soon as I get home from work.

Here in Maine,  the sun set this evening at 4:13 PM.

My usual routine after work was to come home, walk the dogs and enjoy some exercise after being cooped up in an office all day.  But now, it is already dark before I even think about leaving the office!  Since I live in the country, there are not even any street lights near my home.  So I arrive home, it is pitch dark at 6:30, I walk in the the house and all I feel like doing is jumping in my pj's and curling up with a good book and waiting till a reasonable time so I can crawl into bed.

I definitely need to get out of this rut.

I started walking the dogs every morning quite awhile ago.

Then I started walking 4 miles after taking the dogs for their walk and before getting ready for work.  I try to work this in at least 3 times per week.

My hope was that by doing this in the morning with the sun shining, the early sunset would not affect me quite as much.

I was wrong.

I have heard that using the light bulbs that mimic natural sunlight helps some people adjust to the change.

Have you tried these?  Did they work?  Do you have any suggestions?

I would love to hear what you do to handle the time change or if it even effects you.

A GREAT Supper!

Tonight I made a wonderful dish for supper.  Halibut over Spinach.

I got the recipe from Jessica Seinfeld's newest cookbook -Double Delicious!

Check out Jessica's website HERE.  You will find the recipe for Halibut over Spinach and several more.  Her website has links to show you how to prepare the recipes also!  How cool is that.  By the way, did I mention that it only took 15 minutes from start to finish to make the entire meal?

Enjoy your week!

Weekend news

It has been a beautiful weekend.  Each day was in the high 60's and extremely bright without a cloud in the sky.
John and I are getting ready to watch a special on TLC.

Since I saw the movie "The Wilderness Family",  I have wanted to spend time exploring Alaska and it's beauty!

Well, it is finally on.  Gotta go, have a great week!

Negative People - How to deal with their behaviors.

Definition of NEGATIVE

a : lacking positive qualities; especially : disagreeable
b : marked by features of hostility, withdrawal, or pessimism that hinder or oppose constructive treatment or development negative outlook> <negative criticism>

Have you ever  been around someone who never has anything good to say about anyone or anything?
Overtime, being around someone who is always negative will really bring you down.

I am searching for ways to deal with negative people.  There are many instances when I have no choice but to be around and communicate with negative people.  My normal way of handling the negative person was to be positive, happy and point out good things about that person and hoping that it would rub off.  Guess what, it doesn't always work.  I now have to rethink my approach.  I am tired of allowing negative people to bring me down.

As always, I feel I need to find out why people behave this way in order to figure out how to best deal with these types of people.  I have done a lot of searching the web and have found that most resources list the following as reasons for people's negative behavior:
  1. Low self-esteem
  2. Passive aggressive tendencies
  3. Attention seeking tendencies
  4. Low level depression
  5. Learned behaviors from others
I am going to look around and see if I can find out how to deal with these negative people.   I will keep you updated!

In the meantime, do you have any suggestions?
