Is it really over - already?

Seems like yesterday we were welcoming in 2010.
Seems like yesterday, now isn't that an old cliche?  But so very true.

This year has truly flown by, many joys and quite a few sorrows.  The end of a year is not a time to reflect on things of sorrow but a time to reflect on our blessings, and this year John and I have had many blessings.

So far I have decided on one goal for this new year - to focus on the important things in life and put work and outside influences in their proper perspective.

Wish me luck!

The Barker's are battling nasty colds

I think we are passing this doozy of a cold back and forth to each other.  Did I mention that I do not have time to be sick?  I have things to do.  I finally get a few days off from work and what happens - I get sick.  Not only do I get sick, but John gets sick.  This is absolutely NO fun.  It is looking like I will need a vacation from my few days off.  John and I have been home since Christmas Day and have not been out of the house except for one of us braving the short walk to the mailbox.  Can you believe that I actually exhausted myself just walking to the mailbox?  I am ready for this to be over!

I am sure that STRESS has nothing to do with being sick - again.  If you Google "stress and health" you get 83 million results that prove that stress effects your immune system and therefore your overall health.  It stands to reason that if I get a handle on my stress, my health will be better.  And if my health is better I won't have to worry about these darn colds I keep getting.  Sounds like a good New Year's Resolution, what do you think?

Hmm, it is that time of year isn't it - I am going to have to think about my resolutions this year.  I know I MUST do something about stress this year.

The countdown begins...

There are only 5 days till Christmas!

Can it be true?

Are you ready?

I have most of my shopping done.  I only say "most" because I feel like I have forgotten someone and for the life of me, I can not remember who it could be.

Ever have one of those days?  Well, I am having one of those years!

Most of John's presents are here and ready to wrap, I just have 3 more that have been ordered and have not arrived yet.  I should have had them delivered to me at work - I am just hoping that he will not figure out what the gift is by the return address.  I am not even going to hint about it here because I really want him to be surprised!  And I think this is going to be the year that I actually surprise him!!!  I will let you know!

I get so excited at Christmas time - I love everything about Christmas!

What do you love most about Christmas?

I am on the mend!

What a week!  It is hard to believe how fast the days are passing by.  I can not believe that this is the last weekend/my last chance at shopping till Christmas!  I do not even want to think about it tonight - I will think about that tomorrow.

John made one of my favorite Christmas treats today.  He made my Aunt Chris's Cheese Bonbons - and boy were they delicious.

CHEESE BONBONS

1 lb. sharp cheese, grated
2 sticks margarine, softened
2 cups flour
1 tsp. red pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
 1/2 lb whole pecans

  • Mix all together and roll into very small balls.
  • Place on cookie sheet covered with foil and press one-fourth of a pecan on top of each to flatten.
  • Bake in 325 degree oven until dry and crisp.
  • Make very tiny balls.  (It takes about 25 min. in my oven.)

I hope you get a chance to make them.  They are wonderful to wrap and give or take to a pot luck.  They are delicious and are not the standard candy or cookies!  I don't know about you, but I am so sick of sweets already!  These are the perfect substitute.

Tomorrow is looking like I will be spending the entire day shopping.  Would you believe that I have only bought about 5 or 6 gifts.  I am tired just thinking about tomorrow.  Wish me luck - I have so many people to buy for!

So, how are you spending your last weekend before Christmas?  I hope you are better organized this year than I am!

**Did I mention that I am feeling MUCH better?**

A very yucky Monday.

I have felt like I am coming down with a cold for several days and today was definitely the worst day!  Stuffy nose, runny eyes, raw throat, stopped up ears, headache and believe it or not nausea.  YUCK!  I hate to be sick - but I HATE to be nauseated!

I am hoping that tomorrow is much - much better!

Busy - Busy - Busy

John and I have been busy getting ready for Christmas.  We have helped to make 48 Boxes of household necessities for needy families.  We have "adopted" 2 families to buy Christmas presents for and now one elderly person at the nursing home where I work.  Whew, shopping for presents sure can be exhausting!  (I never thought I would say that about shopping!)

Today we are taking a break from all that shopping and going to a Christmas Recital with my BFF - Diane and her beau.  It will be a nice change of pace.  Two of her grandchildren and a daughter-in-law will be preforming at the Recital - I can not wait to see them!  After the recital, we are heading to Diane and my favorite eatery for a relaxing meal.  What better way could we spend a Sunday?

How are you spending your weekend?  Getting ready for Christmas?

Brr - it is cold outside!

I woke up to snow this morning.  It was beautiful.  According to the prognosticators, we should expect 5-7 inches before dark.  It was windy and the snow was blowing - just what I needed to get into the Christmas mood!

At around noon, the snow just suddenly stopped.  There was not much more than a dusting.  In some places, there was absolutely no snow due to all of the wind.   I was bummed.

When out of the blue, my ears perked up, I heard the song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer emanating from the main office.  I love that song!

Welcome back Christmas mood!  I am going to download my favorite Christmas music on my MP3 and keep that wonderful Christmas mood alive!

I hope you are feeling the Christmas cheer.

What helps you to stay in the holiday mood?

Have a great week!

Back to work

After a long weekend, it is back to work.  I have had such a relaxing time off.  Six days off in a row just resting, reading, shopping, spending time with John and my best friend.  It doesn't get much better than that!

I started a new book on my time off - Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home, by Rhoda Janzen.  So far I like this book, I will let you know what I think once I finish the book.

Have you read anything good lately?  I am always looking for something good to read!

I hope your week is going as good as mine!
